Reacher Showrunner on if Season 3 Will Feature Returning Characters

Reacher showrunner Nick Santora has addressed whether the upcoming third season will feature more surprise appearances from returning characters. The response comes after the unannounced cameo by Margrave PD Police Captain and Chief Detective Oscar Finlay (Malcolm Goodwin) in Season 2, Episode 4.

Will Reacher Season 3 bring back former characters?

Santora told The Hollywood Reporter: “What I can say is the spirit of Reacher is that he is a loner and a drifting hobo, to use Reacher’s terminology. So, Reacher is never going to have a band of merry folks that travel along with him and help him solve crimes, and have adventures.”

Santora continued, elaborating on the mindset of the character played by Alan Ritchson: “The DNA of Reacher is that he moves about on his own and teams up with good people when there’s bad lurking about, and then he says goodbye to those people and goes on his way. And that’s what we’re always trying to stay true to.”

In addition to Finlay, Reacher Season 1 featured Roscoe Cocklin (Willa Fitzgerald), who became a fan-favorite. Though she was mentioned in season 2, she did not appear.

Reacher Season 3 will be based on the book Persuader, the seventh book in Lee Child’s Jack Reacher series. It’s also confirmed that Maria Sten (Swamp Thing) will return, reprising the role of Frances Neagley alongside Ritchson.

In the upcoming episodes, Jack Reacher “must go undercover to rescue an informant held by a haunting foe from his past,” per the official logline.

Based on the novels by Child, who is an executive producer on the series, the Prime Video show stars Ritchson (Fast X, Titans) and is produced by Amazon MGM Studios, Skydance Television, and Paramount Television Studios. Reacher is written for television by Emmy-nominated writer Nick Santora (FUBAR, Prison Break), who also executive produces and serves as showrunner. In addition to Santora and Child, Ritchson will serve as an executive producer of Season Three, along with Don Granger, Scott Sullivan, Mick Betancourt, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Matt Thunell for Skydance. Carolyn Harris and Kenny Madrid are the executives in charge of the series for Skydance Television.
