Netflix Developing Multiple TV Spin-offs Based on Extraction & Peaky Blinders

According to Bloomberg, Netflix is currently in the process of developing multiple TV spin-offs based on the streamer’s “existing intellectual property.” One of the projects includes a potential series adaptation of the Chris Hemsworth-led action thriller film franchise Extraction. This revelation comes after over six months since Extraction 2 had made its debut.

In addition, the outlet also confirmed that the streamer is planning two Peaky Blinders spin-offs based on BBC’s hit period crime drama, which ended its six-season run last April 2022. The first project will reportedly take place in the middle of the 20th century, after several decades after the final season of the original Cillian Murphy-led series. Meanwhile, the second one would serve as a prequel revolving around Shelby matriarch Polly Gray, who was portrayed by the late Helen McCrory. The Harry Potter vet last played the fan-favorite character during Season 5.

What is Peaky Blinders about?

Created and written by Steven Knight, Peaky Blinders was set in the lawless streets of Birmingham as it tracks the evolution of leader Tommy Shelby (Murphy) from backstreet crime lord to legitimate businessman and member of parliament. It also starred Paul Anderson as Arthur Shelby, Sophie Rundle as Ada Thorne, Finn Cole as Michael Gray, Tom Hardy as Alfie, Anya Taylor-Joy as Gina Gray, Brian Gleeson as Jimmy McCavern, Neil Maskell as Winston Churchill, Sam Claflin as Oswald Mosley, and more.

Before the sixth season had wrapped up, Knight previously revealed his plans of making a Peaking Blinders movie, which would potentially continue Thomas Shelby’s future. In another interview, Knight also opened up about the future of the Peaky Blinders franchise, hinting at the possibility of creating spin-offs.

“We are in development,” Knight said on the film’s current progress. “It’s a fully formed idea and it has a beginning, middle, and end. And I think it’s going to be a fitting conclusion to the story told so far, but from it, there will be things I don’t really call spinoffs, but there will be other TV shows that I hope will come out of [it], that will continue to tell the story of this part of society and this family.”
