How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris shared details about becoming the latest Doctor Who villain, The Toymaker.
In a new behind-the-scenes clip uploaded via Doctor Who’s official YouTube page, the actor expressed his delight at playing the villainous toymaker in the 60th anniversary special of the long-running science fiction series.
In the video, Harris said that one of the “cool things” about portraying The Toymaker was that “he just dons visages based on whatever he’s feeling is most appropriate for the scene.”
He added, “One of the cool things about The Toymaker is that he just dons visages based on whatever he’s feeling is most appropriate for the scene. So, it’s not that he is playing different characters, it’s that sense he’s not human, and he wants to be in the mid-1920s as a toymaker. And he’ll just, boom, have the perfect hair for that, the spectacles, the outfit.”

What’s next for the Doctor Who franchise?
Since 1963, the BBC series has seen a number of Doctor regenerations, from William Hartnell as the First Doctor to Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor. Most recently, David Tennant — who also played the Tenth Doctor — returned to the franchise as the Fourteenth Doctor for the 60th anniversary special, which was released on November 25.
Now, Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa will be taking the mantle as the Fifteenth Doctor in the upcoming fourteenth season of the hit series, scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on December 25. The actor will serve as the show’s first Black and openly queer doctor.
The 60th anniversary special aired on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the U.K. You can also stream it on Disney+.
