The Flash vet Reina Hardesty has been tapped to join the Butterfly cast for Prime Video‘s upcoming spy thriller series. Hardesty will be joining previously announced lead Daniel Dae Kim (Lost), who will also serve as an executive producer as part of his 3AD’s first-look deal with Amazon.
This marks Hardesty’s first major TV project as the lead. She is set to portray the role of Rebecca, described as a charismatic and unpredictable assassin.
“Orphaned (or so she thought) at the age of 13, she learned to cope with her pain and loneliness by distancing herself from difficult emotions, applying a mental tourniquet to the part of her that held love and empathy,” reads her official character description (via Deadline). “Over time, she’s developed a hard shell, which is a very useful trait in her line of work. But Rebecca isn’t a grizzled, stoic hitman. She’s shiny and charming and fun to watch, leaping to life with every hit of adrenaline.”
Who’s involved in Butterfly?
Based on Arash Amel’s 2015 graphic novel, Butterfly is co-created and executive produced by Ken Woodruff and Steph Cha, with Woodruff serving as a showrunner. The story will explore treacherous world of global espionage. John Cheng for 3A is executive producing the six-episode series, along with Adam Yoelin, Stephen Christy and Ross Richie of BOOM! Studios.
“In the series, David Jung (Kim), an enigmatic, highly unpredictable former US intelligence operative living in South Korea, whose life is blown to pieces when the consequences of an impossible decision from his past come back to haunt him, and he finds himself pursued by Rebecca, a deadly, sociopathic young agent assigned to kill him,” reads the logline.
