Emmy nominee Matt Smith has signed on for the leading role in Sky Studios’ upcoming limited series adaptation of The Death of Bunny Munro, based on Nick Cave’s darkly comic. The House of the Dragon star is set to play the titular character, who is described as a door-to-door product salesman and sex addict.
“A brilliant exploration of love, grief, and chaos,” Smith said in a statement (via The Hollywood Reporter). “At its heart [is] a deep, difficult, and tender story about a father and son, coping with loss and change.”
What to expect in The Death of Bunny Munro?
The Death of Bunny Munro series hails from writer Pete Jackson and director Isabella Eklöf. It will be produced by Clerkenwell Films, Sky Studios, and Matthew Mulot. Executive producers are Manpreet Dosanjh, Peter Fried, Ed Macdonald, and Emily Harrison. Production on the six-part miniseries is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2024.
“Set adrift by his wife’s suicide and struggling to keep a grip on reality, Bunny Munro does the only thing he can think of with his young son in tow, he hits the road. To his son, waiting patiently in the car while his father peddles beauty wares and quickies to lonely housewives in the south of England, Bunny is a hero, larger than life.
