Jon Hamm is set to star in the drama American Hostage from Shawn Ryan, who is known for creating shows like The Shield and The Night Agent. The project is based on the podcast of the same name, which features Hamm’s voice as Fred Heckman.
What to know about American Hostage
American Hostage is described as a “psychological thriller that tells the harrowing true story of Fred Heckman, a beloved Indianapolis radio reporter who is thrust into the middle of a life-or-death crisis when hostage-taker, Tony Kiritsis, demands to be interviewed on his popular radio news program.”
Ryan and Eileen Myers co-wrote the script for American Hostage, which is envisioned as an anthology that could focus on a new hostage case each season. The Hollywood Reporter notes that Sony Pictures TV is shopping the project to streamers.
Hamm will also serve as an executive producer on the series alongside Ryan, Myers, Connie Tavel, and Ryan’s MiddKid partner Marney Hochman. Criminal Content’s Shawn Christensen and Gabriel Mason, who worked on the project as executive producers, will fill the same role for the TV adaptation. As of now, Hamm is the only podcast actor who’s also starring in the series.
Hamm, who won an Emmy for his role as Don Draper on Mad Men, has returned to TV in a big way. He recently joined the cast of the Apple TV+ drama The Morning Show. Next, he’ll headline Fargo Season 5 and lend his voice to Fox’s animated show Grimsburg.
