Star Trek: Prodigy has been saved. After being removed from Paramount+, the animated series will find its new home at Netflix. Per TVLine, the first season will debut on Netflix later this year, while the never-before-seen second season will arrive sometime in 2024.
Star Trek: Prodigy was one of several shows to be cancelled and removed by Paramount+ in June, with reports noting that the decision was partially financially motivated. At the time, it was mentioned that the already-completed second season would be looking for a new home.
What’s Star Trek: Prodigy About?
The series “follows a motley crew of young aliens who must figure out how to work together while navigating a greater galaxy, in search of a better future,” per the official description. “These six young outcasts know nothing about the ship they have commandeered — a first in the history of the Star Trek franchise — but over the course of their adventures together, they will each be introduced to Starfleet and the ideals it represents.”
The main voice cast includes Kate Mulgrew as Hologram Kathryn Janeway, Brett Gray as Dal, Ella Purnell as Gwyn, Rylee Alazraqui as Rok-Tahk, Angus Imrie as Zero, Jason Mantzoukas as Jankom Pog, Dee Bradley Baker as Murf, John Noble as The Diviner, and Jimmi Simpson as Drednok.
Recurring voices are Daveed Diggs as Commander Tysess, Jameela Jamil as Ensign Asencia, Jason Alexander as Doctor Noum, Robert Beltran as Captain Chakotay, and Billy Campbell as Thadiun Okona.
Hailing from CBS Studios’ Eye Animation Productions, Nickelodeon Animation, Secret Hideout, and Roddenberry Entertainment, Star Trek: Prodigy is executive produced by co-showrunners Kevin and Dan Hageman, alongside Alex Kurtzman, Heather Kadin, Aaron Baiers, Rod Roddenberry, and Trevor Roth. Ben Hibon also directs, executiveproduces and is credited as the creative lead.
