The official copyright filing for Marvel Studios‘ Ironheart confirms Sacha Baron Cohen is boarding the MCU.
On September 21, 2023, Marvel Studios registered Ironheart, the upcoming Disney+ Marvel series, with the United States Copyright Office. Along with a brief description of the series, the copyright filing confirms Cohen will appear in Ironheart as “Mystery Man,” though this is likely a placeholder name concealing the character’s true identity.
Cohen has been rumored to be playing Mephisto, a demonic villain created by Stan Lee and John Buscema, since October 2022. Deadline reported that a source close to Ironheart’s production said Cohen was “likely playing Mephisto” and that he might also appear in other MCU projects. Rumors further claimed that Mephisto might be getting his own Marvel Studios Special Presentation, though these reports were later debunked.
Cohen is best known for his comedic performances, as he’s portrayed characters such as Borat, Brüno, Ali G, and more in various projects. He has also appeared in a number of dramas, including Les Misérables, Netflix’s The Spy, and Aaron Sorkin’s The Trial of the Chicago 7, the latter of the three earning him an Oscar nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role.
Who else is starring in Ironheart?
Directed by Sam Bailey, the series additionally stars Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams/Ironheart, Anthony Ramos as Parker Robbins/The Hood, Alden Ehrenreich as Joe McGillicuddy, Lyric Ross as Natalie Washington, Matthew Elam as Xavier Washington, Anji White as Ronnie Williams, Manny Montana as Cousin John, and Shea Coulee as Slug.
“Marvel Studios presents Ironheart in which charming teenage super genius Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) returns from MIT to her hometown of Chicago in her iron suit and begins to unravel threads that bring danger and adventure right to her doorstep,” the copyright filing’s description reads. “The adventure begins in episode 101 as Riri is introduced to the audience.”
According to the copyright filing, Ironheart is looking to debut on Disney+ in September 2025.
