The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Star Promises a Unique Spin-off Show: ‘We’re Not Following Anything’

The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus says the upcoming Daryl Dixon spin-off series will be a “different animal” from other zombie shows.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Reedus spoke on The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon and what fans can expect out of AMC‘s new spin-off.

“I think with doing a show as long as The Walking Dead for that many years, whether you know it or not, you fall into a rhythm of repeating things that work,” Reedus explained. “I found myself saying some of the same lines over and over, and did all the other sorts of storylines that we had done before, maybe with another character or whatever. Now, we’re not following anything.”

He continued, “I feel like we’re not cranking it out for numbers on a Sunday night. We’re making art, and there’s moving dialogue. It’s a different animal and it’s beautiful, it’s touching, and it’s sort of amazing to look at and listen to and watch and feel.”

What is The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon about?

Reedus played Daryl Dixon for all 11 seasons of AMC’s The Walking Dead, which aired its first episode in October 2010 before concluding in November 2022. The new Daryl-focused spin-off is set after the conclusion of the original series and follows the character on a new journey based in Europe.

“Daryl washes ashore in France (the origin of the zombie virus) and struggles to piece together how he got there and why,” the synopsis reads. “The series tracks his journey across a broken but resilient France as he hopes to find a way back home. As he makes the journey, though, the connections he forms along the way complicate his ultimate plan.”

Along with Reedus, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon stars Clémence Poésy, Adam Nagaitis, Anne Charrier, and Eriq Ebouaney. Based on the Image Comics series by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard, the show is created by David Zabel.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon premieres on September 10, 2023, on AMC.
