Pop star Britney Spears was allegedly slapped in the face by the security of NBA draft pick Victor Wembanyama. Spears has since filed a police report over the confrontation.
What happened with Britney Spears and Spurs Security?
According to an initial report from TMZ, the incident took place at the Catch restaurant in Las Vegas’ ARIA Hotel on Wednesday night. While entering the restaurant, Spears spotted Wembanyama; according to TMZ, the star went to ask the future NBA player for a photograph.
The report notes Spears tapped him on the back of his shoulder. At this point, the Director of Team Security for the San Antonio Spurs (who drafted Wembanyama) turned and slapped Spears in the face. TMZ notes that the slap caused Spears to fall down, and she eventually returned to her seat.
Other reports corroborate the story. Another TMZ report came from a witness who said Spears was slapped, and was also speaking in a British accent before and after the incident.
The Director of Team Security then made his way to Spears’ table. He apologized for the incident, which Spears reportedly accepted.
However, newer reports suggest that Spears actually filed a police report against the man (Damian Smith.) TMZ’s sources say it is being treated seriously, and could “likely” be referred to the District Attorney. At this time, it’s unknown if criminal charges will be filed. Police arrived at the ARIA Hotel on Thursday morning to conduct an interview with Spears.
Wembanyama recently became the latest #1 overall pick in the NBA, and is said by many to be one of the greatest basketball talents in a generation.
