A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder: Wednesday’s Emma Myers to Lead BBC Series

BBC has officially granted a series order to the upcoming adaptation of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, based on Holly Jackson’s coming-of-age murder mystery novel series. Wednesday breakout Emma Myers has been tapped for the leading role of Pip Fitz-Amobi, an aspiring young detective who’s fond of true crime stories. This marks Myers’ first major TV project as the lead. In addition to Myers, BBC has also enlisted newcomer Zain Iqbal for the role of Ravi.

“I am so unbelievably excited that Emma is our Pip. She is phenomenal and this role was truly always meant to be hers,” Jackson said in a statement. “And we found our perfect Ravi in Zain. I can’t wait for us all to be able to watch their scenes. I smile every time I see them together, because I know that we’ve pulled off the impossible, and Emma and Zain are the only two people I would trust to bring these characters to life. Everyone’s going to be just as thrilled as I am.”

What is A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder about?

“Five years ago, schoolgirl Andie Bell was murdered by her boyfriend Sal Singh,” reads the synopsis. “Case closed. The police know he did it. Everyone in town knows he did it. But smart and single minded Pip Fitz-Amobi isn’t so sure and she’s determined to prove it. And if Sal Singh isn’t a murderer and the real killer is still out there, how far will they go to keep Pip from the truth?

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder will be directed by actress Dolly Wells from a screenplay written by Poppy Cogan, Zia Ahmed, Ajoke Ibironke, and Ruby Thomas. The six-episode first season will based on the first novel of Jackson’s novel series about the teenage sleuth’s investigations. It is followed by the 2020 sequel Good Girl, Bad Blood and 2021’s As Good As Dead, as well as the prequel Kill Joy.

Executive producers are Wells, Cogan, Jackson, Matthew Read, Matthew Bouch, Frith Tiplady, Lucy Richer, and Danielle Scott-Haughton, with Florence Walker serving as a producer. It hails from Moonage Pictures. Production is expected to begin later this year in England.
