Yellowjackets co-creator Ashley Lyle has confirmed that a bonus episode is slated to be released ahead of the acclaimed thriller drama’s third season return on Showtime.
The news comes nearly a week after Yellowjackets Season 2 wrapped up its nine-episode run with a heartbreaking season finale featuring the unexpected death of one of its leading characters. The preproduction on Yellowjackets Season 3 has been temporarily shutdown due to the ongoing WGA strike which would likely delay the next installment’s premiere date.
What is Yellowjackets about?
“Equal parts survival epic, psychological horror story, and coming-of-age drama, it tells the saga of a team of wildly talented high school girls soccer players who become the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the remote northern wilderness,” reads the series’ synopsis. “The series chronicles their descent from a complicated but thriving team to savage clans, while also tracking the lives they’ve attempted to piece back together nearly 25 years later, proving that the past is never really past and what began out in the wilderness is far from over.”
Yellowjackets stars Christina Ricci, Juliette Lewis, Melanie Lynskey, Tawny Cypress, Samantha Hanratty, Sophie Thatcher, Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Steven Krueger, and Warren Kole. Season 2 also featured the introduction of Emmy-nominated actress Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under, Servant) as adult Van Palmer, Simone Kessell (Obi-Wan Kenobi) as adult Lottie, and Elijah Wood as citizen detective Walter.
Yellowjackets is created and executive produced by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson. Executive producers are Drew Comins, Karyn Kusama, and Jonathan Lisco, who is also serving as the showrunner. It is produced by Entertainment One.
