HBO’s head of drama Francesca Orsi has addressed the success of Mike White’s HBO comedy series The White Lotus. Speaking with Deadline, Orsi also teased what viewers should expect to see in The White Lotus Season 3, which she described as more of “an exploration about spirituality versus the ego” and will be “set against the Eastern religion.”
“We never predicted it would be the phenomenon it has been and a lightning in a bottle though he’s delivered it exponentially from a success standpoint in Season 2 as well, and we have high hopes for Season 3,” Orsi said. “We were excited about Season 1. Then Mike’s pitch for Season 2 had us all gleeful, and I’ll say that for Season 3, sitting down with him for lunch, we left feeling even more ecstatic than we have been up to this point. We’ve been very, very fortunate to be in business with Mike White; he is a truly a genius.”
