Former ABC President Paul Lee has spoken about Agent Carter, the 2015 Marvel television series, and how it would be received today.
Speaking to TheWrap, Lee explained that the series, which followed Hayley Atwell‘s Peggy Carter as a secret agent, came at a time when Marvel‘s movies and shows were “separated.” He then said that Agent Carter would “do better today” since the two mediums are now closer.
“Look, structurally, don’t forget, it was at a time when Marvel movies and Marvel TV were separated. So I think one of the reasons it would do better today is that the platform is used to it,” Lee stated. “And it would have sat brilliantly amongst those. But it was a great early suggestion of where the Marvel brand could go and very useful to everybody.”
Agent Carter debuted on ABC in 2015 and ran for two seasons. The Marvel Cinematic Universe show starred Hayley Atwell, Enver Gjokaj, James D’Arcy, Dominic Cooper, and Wynn Everett. The series centered on Peggy Carter, who first appeared in Captain America: The First Avenger, and showed her tackle a variety of threats as an agent of the Strategic Scientific Reserve.
Atwell would play Carter in further Marvel movies, like Ant-Man and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, while D’Arcy would reprise his role as Jarvis in Avengers: Endgame.
