The Last of Us Season 1 Featured a Secret Guest Star Clicker

A week since The Last of Us Season 1 finale, it has been revealed that one of the terrifying clickers featured in two episodes of HBO’s horror drama was actually an Emmy-nominated guest actor. In a recent appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Yellowjackets star Melanie Lynskey confirmed that her husband Jason Ritter had a secret cameo on The Last of Us, where he played a clicker during episodes which starred Lynskey’s character Kathleen Coghlan.

“He was a stunt person. He trained with the stunt people and he just did all these amazing stunts. It’s like his lifelong dream,” Lynskey said. “He got put in the makeup and he came out of the ground and was falling over and doing all of these … I shot him once.”

Ritter’s cameo was actually first spotted by an eagle-eyed viewer after watching the behind-the-scene mini-documentary of The Last of Us. This won’t be the first time that Ritter would be joining his wife, as the Parenthood actor will next be seen in the upcoming Yellowjackets Season 2 for an undisclosed guest-starring role.

The Last of Us stars Pascal and Ramsey are Gabriel Luna (Terminator: Dark Fate) as Tommy Miller, Nico Parker (Dumbo) as Joel’s daughter Sarah, Anna Torv (Mindhunter) as Tess, and Merle Dandridge (The Flight Attendant) as she reprises her role from the video games as Marlene, the leader of a resistance group known as the Fireflies. It also features Jeffrey Pierce (Bosch) as Perry, Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus) as Frank, Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation) as Bill, and Storm Reid (Euphoria) as Riley.

“The live-action series takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed,” reads the synopsis. “Joel and Ellie, a pair connected through the harshness of the world they live in, are forced to endure brutal circumstances and ruthless killers on a trek across a post-pandemic America.”

The Last of Us is executive produced and co-written by Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin and original game writer Neil Druckmann, who is also serving as one of the directors. It is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television in association with PlayStation Productions. Executive producers are Carolyn Strauss, Naughty Dog President Evan Wells, and PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan.

Season 1 is now available for streaming on HBO Max.
