According to Deadline, Disney+ has officially decided not to renew Lucasfilm’s sequel series to the classic 1988 film Willow for a second season. This cancellation comes after two months since the coming-of-age fantasy dramedy had concluded its 8-episode first season, which received positive reviews from critics. It currently holds a Certified Fresh rating of 83% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Willow series came from showrunners Jonathan Kasdan and Wendy Mericle. Joining Warwick Davis was Ellie Bamber as Elora Danan, Ruby Cruz as Kit Tanthalos, Erin Kellyman as Jade, Tony Revolori as Graydon, Amar Chadha-Patel as Boorman, Dempsey Bryk as Airk, and Joanne Whalley as Queen Sorsha.
“The story began when an aspiring sorcerer is whisked away on a journey to protect an infant empress Elora Danan and vanquish the evil Queen Bavmorda from their world of Andowyne,” reads the synopsis. “Now, the story continues with Davis reprising his titular role, as he leads an unlikely crew of heroes on a quest to protect Andowyne from an even larger foe than they had imagined possible.”
Ron Howard, the director of the original Willow, served as an executive producer along with Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Jonathan Kasdan, Tommy Harper, Wendy Mericle, Roopesh Parekh, and Samie Kim. The producers were Stephen Woolfenden, Julia Cooperman, Hameed Shaukat, and Max Taylor. Its lineup of writers included John Bickerstaff, Hannah Friedman, and Kasdan.
