Daredevil star Charlie Cox has nothing but love for the fans, who he feels were partially responsible for giving him another chance to step into the role of the iconic superhero.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter following Marvel Studios’ showcase at D23 Expo, Cox was asked about his upcoming Disney+ television series, Daredevil: Born Again, which was announced at San Diego Comic-Con. Cox said that not only was he happy about returning to the role, but he was also grateful for fans who still wanted him around and kickstarted the “Save Daredevil” campaign across social media.
“I feel like I owe them a huge thank you,” Cox said. “You know, the ‘Save Daredevil‘ campaign, they campaigned so hard for this, and there were times where I would meet some of them when they came to see a play that I was doing in New York, or my friends who would follow them online would tell me stuff that they’re trying to do and raise awareness.”

Cox went on to note that even when his own belief in ever returning to the role faltered, fans didn’t give up, joking that at times he was thinking that it was “over” for his chances. “I would be there thinking, ‘Guys, I think it’s over. I think you need — it’s so nice, but I think we need to give up,’ and they didn’t, and here we are.”
