Another DC Comics property at HBO Max has been done away with, as the anthology series Strange Adventures has reportedly been canceled at the streamer.

According to director Kevin Smith in a recent appearance on the Hollywood Babble-On podcast, the series — which was going to hail from executive producer Greg Berlanti — was “dead.” During the podcast, Smith said he understood the decision to move on from the project, noting that it was going to be “expensive” and feature characters that were more or less unknown to the general audience.
“[Dropping Strange Adventures] kind of made sense to me — nobody necessarily knows these characters, and it sounded like an expensive show,” Smith said on the podcast.
In a report from The Hollywood Reporter that dives a bit more into it, the series was said to have come to an end during its development stages, with the report noting that the decision to move on from the project came a few months ago — well before the WarnerMedia-Discovery merger became final. The Hollywood Report specifically noted that the decision was not a part of the recent attempts to cut down on spending at Warner Bros. Discovery.

Strange Adventures was set to be an anthology series that would feature some lesser-known characters from the DC universe, with different directors handling each episode. While it’s unknown just how many directors were on board, we do know that Kevin Smith was one who was set to direct and co-write an episode of the series.
