Jodie Foster-Led True Detective Season 4 Gets Series Order at HBO

HBO has officially given a series order to Issa López and Barry Jenkins’ forthcoming fourth installment of the acclaimed crime drama True Detective: Night Country, which will be led by Oscar winner Jodie Foster. Production is set to take place in Iceland.

In addition, it has also been announced that boxer Kali Reis have been tapped to star opposite Foster for the leading role of Detective Evangeline Navarro. Reis made her acting debut last year with the thriller film Catch the Fair One. The upcoming HBO series marks her first ever TV project.

“We are tremendously excited to return to the True Detective franchise and to be working with the multi-talented Issa López, whose singular vision for her Night Country installment will be beautifully realized with Jodie Foster and Kali Reis in the starring roles,” EVP of HBO Programming Francesca Orsi said in a statement.

True Detective: Night Country is being written by Issa López and Alan Page Arriaga, with Lopez expected to direct multiple episodes. It will be executive produced by Foster along with Barry Jenkins, Adele Romanski, and Mark Ceryak through their Pastel banner.

“When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the six men that operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace,” reads the synopsis. “To solve the case, Detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Reis) will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.”

Additional executive producers include Mari Jo Winkler, Matthew McConaughey, and Woody Harrelson, along with Cary Joji Fukunaga and series creator Nic Pizzolatto, who won’t be involved with the creative process of the fourth installment.
