Following the recent casting of Leslie Bibb, Deadline brings word that Latin superstar Ricky Martin has been tapped for a leading role in Apple TV+’s forthcoming comedy Mrs. American Pie. Martin will be starring opposite Kristen Wiig as the male lead named Robert. Joining him and Wiig are previously announced cast members Oscar winners Alison Janney and Laura Dern, who are also set to executive produce.
This marks Martin’s first major American scripted series in four years since appearing in the acclaimed miniseries The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. Other than reality singing competitions like Britain’s Got Talent and Lip Synce Battle, his other TV credits include appearances in General Hospital and Glee.

Set during the powder keg era of the early 1970s, Mrs. American Pie will be directed by Oscar nominee Tate Taylor (The Help) from a screenplay written by Abe Sylvia (Dead to Me), who will be serving as the showrunner.
“A story about gorgeously impossible people, it follows Maxine Simmons’ (Wiig) attempt to secure her seat at America’s most exclusive table: Palm Beach high society,” reads the synopsis. “As Maxine attempts to cross that impermeable line between the haves and the have-nots, the series asks the same questions that still baffle us today: ‘Who gets a seat at the table?’ ‘How do you get a seat at the table?’ ‘What will you sacrifice to get there?'”
