Earlier this year, it was reported that Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts was attached to direct an untitled Star Wars series for Disney+. Now, in a recent Vanity Fair article highlighting Lucasfilm’s upcoming television slate, the first official details for Watts’ secret Star Wars series have been revealed, confirming the blockbuster filmmaker’s role as creator and executive producer. This news comes after nearly a month since Watts announced his exit from Marvel Studios’ long-awaited Fantastic Four film.

The outlet further reveals that Watts is developing a coming-of-age adventure series, inspired by “classic Amblin films” of the 80s. The untitled project currently has a temporary title of Grammar Rodeo, which is a nod to a Simpsons episode featuring Bart running away for a week with a stolen car.
Set during the events after Return of the Jedi, the upcoming Disney+ series has reportedly started sending out casting notices for four children, around 11 to 12 years old. Joining Watts is writer Chris Ford, who previously worked with Watts on Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Following the massive theatrical success of the third Tom Holland-led Spider-Man film, Watts is currently on another high-profile film in the form of an untitled thriller starring Oscar winners George Clooney and Brad Pitt. He’s also set to produce the sixth installment of Final Destination for HBO Max.
