Gotham Knights Series in Development at The CW

The CW’s Gotham Knights Features Rare Comics Costume for Batman

In the world of superheroes, goofy costumes are a given. This has given many a movie studio a headache when adapting these characters to the silver screen, leading to everything from jokes about colorful spandex in X-Men to Joel Schumacher’s famous bat nipples. As more comic book characters make boatloads of money, studios have been less hesitant to embrace the medium as it is. For example, The Dark Knight has seen many adaptions, but The CW’s Gotham Knights will be the first to add a comics-accurate splash of blue to his traditionally black batsuit.

The preview comes in a behind-the-scenes photo posted on Twitter. The bright blue cowl is right off the page and should pair well with a blue cape or other accents to Bruce Wayne’s supersuit. Of course, the whole conceit of Gotham Knights involves a city without Batman, so it’s likely that viewers will only get a brief glimpse at this costume in action at the very beginning of the series.

Gotham Knights will bring together the offspring of several of Batman’s biggest foes as a crime-fighting force operating in a city without its biggest protector. The CW has cast  Fallon Smythe as Bluebird, Tyler DiChiara as her brother Cullen Row, Olivia Rose Keegan as Duela Dent, Navia Robinson as Carrie Kelley, Oscar Morgan as Turner Hayes, Misha Collins as Harvey Dent, and Anna Lore as Stephanie Brown.

The Gotham Knights comic also serves as the inspiration for an upcoming video game developed by WB Games Montréal. It will feature the same premise of a city without Batman but instead stars his regular band of sidekicks stepping up to the plate. Players can switch between Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, and Red Hood to take on the crime-filled streets. While Gotham Knights will premiere on TV in 2023, the video game is set to premiere on October 25, 2022.
