The new poster celebrates the Pakistani heritage of Ms. Marvel’s Kamala Khan (as well as the actress playing her, Iman Vellani) by incorporating various homages to Khan’s background. The poster, designed by illustrator Shehzil Malik, sees Khan sporting a Henna/Mendhi design on her right wrist, while in between Khan’s hands are a crescent moon and star, which are traditional signifiers for both the beginning and end of fasting during Ramadan.

“The series introduces Kamala Khan—a 16-year-old Pakistani American from Jersey City,” reads the official synopsis. “An aspiring artist, an avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, she is a huge fan of the Avengers—and one in particular, Captain Marvel. But Kamala has always struggled to find her place in the world—that is, until she gets super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to.”
