Netflix has officially announced the development of a brand new adult-animated series titled Exploding Kittens, based on the popular card game of the same name. In addition, the streamer has also revealed that they will also be launching a Exploding Kittens video game which will make its debut next month.
“Netflix is the only service that could bring Exploding Kittens to life in both a series and a game,” said in a statement by Matthew Inman, Exploding Kittens Chief Creative Officer and Creator of The Oatmeal. “We actually launched Exploding Kittens on Kickstarter as a weekend project, but our community has been the heart and soul of the company over the past six years. The new series and game will give our fans new ways to connect and interact with the franchise.”

Set to be released in 2023, the Exploding Kittens series will feature the voices of Lucifer star Tom Ellis as God Cat and Sasheer Zamata (Home Economics) as Devil Cat, and Mark Proksch (What We Do In The Shadow). Joining them are Abraham Lim (The Boys) and Ally Maki (Toy Story 4) who will be voicing a pair of siblings, with Lucy Liu (Elementary) playing their mom.
“In the animated series, the eternal conflict between Heaven and Hell reaches epic proportions when both God and the Devil are sent to Earth – in the bodies of chunky house cats,” reads the synopsis.
It is executive produced by showrunners Shane Kosakowski and Matthew Inman along with the creators of the card game franchise, Elan Lee and The Oatmeal’s Inman. Executive producers are Mike Judge, Greg Daniels, and Dustin Davis of Bandera Entertainment along with Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping for the Chernin Entertainment Group.

Meanwhile, the Exploding Kittens – The Game will retain the same classic gameplay where players draw cards aiming to avoid the Exploding Kitten. The mobile game will be including two new exclusive cars Radar, and Flip Flop as the game mechanics will be around the animated series With both single and multiplayer options, the game will be available to Netflix members without additional fees or in-app purchases.
