CW Renews 7 Shows Including Riverdale, The Flash, & More

As first reported by Deadline, The CW has picked up seven of its long-running scripted hits for new seasons. This is no surprise from a network that has a long tradition of renewing its shows early and often. All American, The Flash, Kung Fu, Nancy Drew, Riverdale, Superman & Lois, and Walker will all see a new batch of episodes, even as some of the shows only just return to the air for the first time in months.

The Flash will see its ninth season, letting it surpass Arrow as the longest-running show in the network’s Arrowverse. Fellow superhero shows Legends of TomorrowStargirl, and Batwoman are still in limbo as of now, but more renewals are expected before the network’s upfront announcements in May.

Flashing to another comic book universe, Riverdale returns for its seventh season. The show, which takes classic Archie Comics characters and turns up the teen angst to an extreme degree, has gained popularity among its target audience and onlookers curious at how far the creators can venture from the source material. It’s unknown as to whether the show will survive another year past its seventh, but fans have at least one more trip to Pop’s in their future.

Other scripted CW shows still waiting for a renewal notice include 4400Naomi, and All American: Homecoming, all of which only recently began their first season on the network. In the Dark and Roswell, New Mexico have episodes still in the can, while DynastyCharmed, and Legacies currently sit on the bubble. Time will tell whether the network will find the room to fit everything on the schedule among talk of Batman-related Arrowverse projects and Supernatural prequels.
