Doomsday Machine: HBO Nabs Claire Foy-Led Miniseries About Facebook

According to Deadline, HBO has acquired the rights to the upcoming limited series titled Doomsday Machine, based on Sheera Frenkel and Cecilia Kang’s New York Times bestselling book An Ugly Truth: Inside Facebook’s Battle for Domination. Emmy winner Claire Foy (The Crown) is leading the project and will be portraying the role of Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg.

Doomsday Machine is created and written by Pulitzer Prize-winner Ayad Akhtar, who is executive producing along with Foy. The series will center around the many political and social issues Facebook attempts to navigate on its growth as a social media platform.

The drama will focus on COO Sheryl Sandberg and Mark Zuckerberg, who are shaping the way that billions of people around the world communicate and consume information. It is expected to cover the period of time beginning around the 2016 Presidential election and the various internal struggles within the company leading to its present-day issues.

Doomsday Machine will be executive produced by Wiip’s Paul Lee and Josh Stern, Anonymous’ Doug Wald and David Levine, Adam Berkowitz, Elyse Cheney, and Adam Eaglin, with The New Yorker’s Andrew Marantz set as a consultant. It hails from Anonymous Content and wiip.
