According to a report from Bespin Bulletin, it is rumored that Emmy nominee Rupert Friend (Homeland, Hitman: Agent 47) could be playing the villainous Grand Inquisitor in Disney+’s upcoming live-action Star Wars series, Obi-Wan Kenobi. The character initially comes from the animated series Star Wars: Rebels, where Darth Vader tasked the Grand Inquisitor to hunt down any surviving Jedi Knights.

The Star Wars site explains that the Grand Inquisitor is a Pau’an Jedi hunter with dark-side Force powers, who followed Vader’s orders to “seek out fugitive Jedi and Force-sensitive youths, preventing them from becoming a threat to the Empire.”
Bespin Bulletin further adds that their sources mentioned that “there are at least three Inquisitors” with Moses Ingram reportedly playing one along with Sung Kang.
Obi-Wan Kenobi will see the return of Ewan McGregor to the Star Wars universe as he reprises his iconic role as the titular Jedi master, which he famously portrayed in George Lucas’ prequel trilogy. It also features the return of fellow Star War alums Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader and Joel Edgerton as Owen Lars.
Joining the returning Star Wars alums are franchise newcomers Kumail Nanjiani (Eternals), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Godzilla: King of the Monsters), Sung Kang (F9: The Fast Saga), Moses Ingram (The Queen’s Gambit), Indira Varma (Game of Thrones), Rupert Friend (The French Dispatch), Simone Kessell (Of Kings and Prophets), Benny Safdie (Uncut Gems) and Maya Erskine (PEN15).
The story is expected to take place eight years after the events of Revenge of the Sith, where we last saw Obi-Wan delivering the infant Luke Skywalker to his Tatooine homestead. Further details about the series’ plot are still scarce. Still, it might potentially explore Obi-Wan’s life on Tatooine between Episodes III and IV, which were previously explored in a few Star Wars novels and comics.
