Disney+ has greenlit the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series based on the bestselling book series by Rick Riordan with casting currently underway.

“The live-action series tells the fantastical story of the titular 12-year-old modern demigod, Percy Jackson, who’s just coming to terms with his newfound supernatural powers when the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt. Now Percy must trek across America to find it and restore order to Olympus,” reads the synopsis.
Riordan and Jon Steinberg (The Old Man) will pen the pilot with James Bobin (The Mysterious Benedict Society, Dora and the Lost City of Gold) attached to direct. Steinberg and his producing partner Dan Shotz will executive produce along with Bobin, Rick Riordan, Rebecca Riordan, Bert Salke, Monica Owusu-Breen, Jim Rowe, and Gotham Group’s Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, and D.J. Goldberg. 20th Television is the studio.

The Percy Jackson book series includes The Lightning Thief, The Sea of Monsters, The Titan’s Curse, The Battle of the Labyrinth, and The Last Olympian. A companion book, The Demigod Files, along with the short story collection The Demigod Diaries were also published by Riordan. The Lightning Thief and Sea of Monsters were previously adapted into feature films starring Logan Lerman as Jackon in 2010 and 2013, respectively.
