X-Men ’97, Spider-Man, Marvel Zombies: Three Animated Series From Marvel Studios Confirmed

In addition to the confirmation of What If…? Season 2, Marvel Studios has announced three new animated series that are officially coming to Disney+. This includes a brand new animated X-Men series titled X-Men ’97; a Spider-Man prequel series titled Spider-Man: Freshman Year; and a Marvel Zombies series, which first appeared during the first season of What If…?. It’s still unclear whether or not these three new shows would also have some connection to the studio’s Marvel Cinematic Universe.

What If…? hails from head writer AC Bradley and director Bryan Andrews. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige previously confirmed that What If…? Season 2 will definitely cover stories and characters that were introduced in Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 4.

X-Men ’97 is expected to explore new stories in the iconic 90s timeline of the original series. It is executive produced by Beau DeMayo (The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf).  The series will be available for streaming sometime in in 2023.

Spider-Man: Freshman Year will be written and executive produced by Jeff Trammel. It follows Peter Parker on his way to becoming Spider-Man in the MCU, with a journey unlike we’ve ever seen and a style that celebrates the character’s early comic book roots.

Marvel Zombies will be directed by Bryan Andrews from a screenplay written by Zeb Wells. Andrews and Wells are also set to executive produce. The series reimagines the Marvel Universe as a new generation of heroes battle against an ever-spreading zombie scourge.
