Blindspotting Renewed for a Second Season at Starz

Starz has officially renewed Rafael Casal and Daveed Diggs’ hit comedy-drama series Blindspotting for a second season, with Casal returning as its showrunner. The renewal comes after more than three months since the sequel series had concluded its 8-episode first season, which is currently Certified Fresh at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

“We are overwhelmed by the outpouring of love for Season 1, and have been hard at work for the last few months crafting the next chapter of this Bay story,” Casal and Diggs said in a statement. “We are so excited to bring the next season to life with the incredible artistry of our cast and crew, and our partners STARZ and Lionsgate. They done f—ed around and gave us more runway, so welcome back to the ordeal!”

“The award-worthy artistry and creativity that Rafael, Daveed and the entire Blindspotting team poured into the series took the comedy genre to a new level and I can’t wait to see what they have in store for season two,” President and CEO at Starz, Jeffrey Hirsch said. “The series deservedly garnered critical acclaim and is a wonderful example of our programming mandate focused on unique, authentic stories by, about and for women and underrepresented audiences.”

Blindspotting serves as the sequel series to Lionsgate’s acclaimed comedy-drama film of the same name. It hails from writers and executive producers Rafael Casal and Daveed Diggs, with the former also reprising Miles from the film in a recurring role. The series stars Jasmine Cephas Jones, Benjamin Turner, Candace Nicholas-Lippman, Jaylen Barron, Atticus Woodward, and Helen Hunt.

“The series picks up six months after the film and centers on Ashley, who is nipping at the heels of a middle-class life in Oakland until Miles, her partner of 12 years and father of their son, is suddenly incarcerated, leaving her to navigate a chaotic and humorous existential crisis when she is forced to move in with Miles’ mother and half-sister,” reads the synopsis.

The Blindspotting series is executive produced by Jess Wu & Keith Calder of Snoot Entertainment (One Night in Miami), Emily Gerson Saines, Ken Lee, and Tim Palen of Barnyard Projects. The project will reunite Casal, Diggs, Wu, and Calder after they’ve spent a decade working to bring the feature film to life.
