The Crown Season 5: New Queen Imelda Staunton Announces Release Window

Netflix gave fans an update on The Crown Season 5 today as it introduced actress Imelda Staunton as the new Queen Elizabeth II. Staunton will play the role for the upcoming fifth and sixth seasons of the hit drama. The show is set to return in November 2022.

Like previous seasons, The Crown Season 5 will now feature an entirely new cast led by Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II, Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret, Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana, Dominic West as Prince Charles, and Jonny Lee Miller as John Major. They will also serve as the final cast of the series as they are expected to return for the sixth and final installment of the award-winning drama.

The series is also currently nominated for eleven major awards at the upcoming 2021 Emmy Awards including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actor for Josh’Connor, Outstanding Lead Actress for both Colman and breakout star Emma Corrin, and Outstanding Supporting Actress for Gillian Anderson, Helena Bonham Carter, and Emerald Fennell.

The Crown hails from creator/writer Peter Morgan, director Stephen Daldry and producer Andy Harries (The Queen). Since its debut, it has won a number of awards including three Golden Globe Awards for Best Actress for Claire Foy, Olivia Colman, and Emma Corrin. The fourth season also took home multiple major awards including Best Drama, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Supporting Actress.

Seasons 1-4 of The Crown are already available for streaming on Netflix.
