The series is set to return on September 22, 2021, and will return with its second live episode in the history of the series. The report notes that the cast will perform live for both the East and West Coast broadcasts, with surprise guests also planned for the premiere episode.
Alongside the news of a live episode, ABC also announced during their summer TCA virtual press tour that they would be launching a “You Can Be A Conner” sweepstakes, which will see a cast member on the show call each sweepstakes winner for a live conversation, during which they will discuss how the sweepstakes winner deals with many life issues going on now and that have also been touched on in the series.
The Conners was originally greenlit to series with an order of 10 episodes for fall 2018. The series, featuring John Goodman (“Dan”), Laurie Metcalf (“Jackie”), Sara Gilbert (“Darlene”), Lecy Goranson (“Becky”), and Michael Fishman (“D.J.”) as their beloved Conner characters, was ranked as last season’s No. 1 new comedy in total viewers and 18-49 and ABC’s No. 1 comedy in both categories. This season, the series was easily ABC’s most-watched comedy series with roughly 7.9 million viewers.
