“Part of the journey between Ciri and Geralt, this season is also one that involves training to be a Witcher,” Schmidt Hissrich said (via Deadline). “Freya [Allan] would send me videos of herself learning to sword fight before we started production in season two, and the stunt team was amazed because she’s just a natural. You’re so fearless on this show both in your emotional performance but also in the physical one.”
Allan and Anya Chalotra also discussed how their characters, Ciri and Yennefer, respectively, are “not there just to aid Henry’s [Cavill] storyline.”
“We’ve received the scripts, and then our characters have this incredible arc, and that’s ultimately about women [having] just as much of a story… We’re all connected and we all have an impact like our characters will have an impact on each other,” Allan shared.
Season 2 of The Witcher will see the story centering on “the leading women’s vulnerabilities including their biggest fears.” Chalotra said they will move away from the “strong woman trope,” with Allan agreeing that the next season will depict them as “real females.”
“They might be weak at times. It’s not all about always being courageous or morally right, but it’s about representing real females, whatever they’re going through,” Allan said. “There’s moments where you question what your character is doing. And that’s what real humans are.”
“In Season 2, convinced Yennefer’s life was lost at the Battle of Sodden, Geralt of Rivia brings Princess Cirilla to the safest place he knows, his childhood home of Kaer Morhen,” the synopsis reads. “While the Continent’s kings, elves, humans, and demons strive for supremacy outside its walls, he must protect the girl from something far more dangerous: the mysterious power she possesses inside.”
Based on the best-selling fantasy series, The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.
The series stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Freya Allan as Princess Ciri, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, MyAnna Buring as Tissaia, and Joey Batey as Jaskier.
Season 2 will introduce a handful of new characters portrayed by Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones), Kim Bodnia (Killing Eve), Paul Bullion (Peaky Blinders), Yasen Atour (Young Wallender), Agnes Bjorn, Basil Eidenbenz (Fast and Furious 9), Aisha Fabienne Ross (The Danish Girl), Mecia Simson (Britain and Ireland’s Next Top Model) and more.
