Games of Thrones Prequel House of the Dragon Halts Production

According to Deadline, HBO has announced that filming on their forthcoming Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon has been temporarily halted due to a crew member testing positive for COVID-19. This marks the latest major production that has been shut down in the UK as it was also recently reported that Netflix’s hit romance drama series Bridgerton had also paused shooting due to a positive COVID-19 case.

The outlet notes that the said crew member is part of the production’s zone A, which consists of cast members and crew. That’s why, in compliance with industry guidelines, the affected production member has been required to enter isolation, with close contacts also set to quarantine. Production on House of the Dragon is scheduled to resume on Wednesday.

Based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & BloodHouse of the Dragon chronicles the rise and the downfall of the Targaryens, who are the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria. It will take place 300 years before the events of the award-winning series adaptation of Game of Thrones which aired its final episode nearly two years ago.

The 10-episode series will be led by Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, and Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen. It will also feature Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Sonoya Mizuno, Milly Alcock, and Emily Carey. Outlander star Graham McTavish was reportedly been cast for a key mystery role.
