10,000 Ships: Amanda Segel to Pen HBO’s New Game of Thrones Spinoff

According to Deadline, HBO has enlisted Helstrom executive producer Amanda Segel to write one of their upcoming Game of Thrones spinoffs that is currently in development. Segel has signed on to pen the story of 10,000 Ships, a prequel series centered around Princess Nymeria and her journey from Essos to Dorne. This news comes a month after production on HBO’s first Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon had officially begun.

10,000 Ships is expected to center around warrior queen, Princess Nymeria and the surviving members of the Rhoynars as they travel from Essos to Dorne after their defeat by the Valyrian Freehold in the Second Spice War. This migration took place around 1,000 years before the events depicted in the A Song of Ice and Fire novels. In the original series, Maisie Williams’ Arya Stark had named her Direwolf after the warrior queen.

The project was first announced along with two other spinoffs titled Sea Snake or 9 Voyages, and Flea Bottom, with the first one being developed by Bruno Heller and George R.R. Martin. Flea Bottom currently has no creative attached to it but it will center around the poorest slum district in King’s Landing, a maze-like warren of narrow streets and dark alleys filled with tanneries, brothels, and alehouses.
