Justin Timberlake to star in Apple’s Confessions of a Dangerous Mind series
Coming off the critical success of Fisher Stevens’ drama film Palmer, Justin Timberlake has found his next collaboration with Apple TV+ in the form of a brand new drama series based on Chuck Barris’ 1984 memoir Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. Deadline reports that Apple has successfully acquired the script at an auction and is planning to develop the project into an hour-long drama series.
Timberlake has officially signed on to the role of Barris, who claimed that he was a CIA assassin moonlighting as a game show host. Should the project secure a series order, this would mark the Grammy and Emmy-winning actor’s first major scripted series after only making guest-starring appearances on Saturday Night Live.

In Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Chuck Barris revealed that becoming the host of The Gong Show and creator of The Dating Game and The Newlywed Game was only a cover for his real job as a CIA assassin, who was tasked to eliminate state enemies during the 1960s and the 1970s.

The memoir was first adapted into film in 2002 also titled Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, which was George Clooney’s directorial debut (after taking over from Bryan Singer). Written by Charlie Kaufman, the film featured an all-star cast including Clooney, Julia Roberts, Drew Barrymore and Sam Rockwell as Barris (a role originally eyed by Michael Myers). The film scored some good notices from critics, but fell short at the box office with a worldwide take of $33.1 million on a $30 million budget.

The series will be executive produced by David Hollander, who will also serve as the showrunner. The project will be written by Jon Worley with Miramax and Paramount Television Studios set as co-producers.
