Alex Rider Season 2 Eyeing January Production Start

According to Deadline, Sony Pictures Television’s Eleventh Hour Films is already planning to start the production on Alex Rider‘s potential second season early next year. Even though Alex Rider Season 2 hasn’t been officially announced yet, the studio is hoping for a 22-week shoot in Bristol, England, which might begin on January 25. The spy thriller series is scheduled to make its U.S. debut on Friday, November 13, exclusively on IMDb TV.

The series, created by Guy Burt (Bletchley Circle) centers on a British teenager named Alex Rider, who has been trained as a spy since childhood and is recruited by the Department of Special Operations, a subdivision of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6), to infiltrate a controversial corrective academy for the wayward offspring of the ultra-rich. The White Queen and Strike Back: Vendetta star Otto Farrant leads the cast as Rider.

The first season of the series adaptation, based on the books by Anthony Horowitz, was fully financed by Sony Pictures TV’s International Production and Worldwide Distribution divisions without any network or streaming platform lined up, with Amazon signing on in May to air the project on Prime Video in the United Kingdom beginning June 4.

At the moment, it hasn’t been confirmed whether Sony will once again finance the series alone or whether they will seek out a co-production partner for a second season, though the studio is reportedly looking to begin production later this year.

Horowitz acts as executive producer on the adaptation alongside Eleventh Hour CEO Jill Green, Eve Gutierrez, Burt, and Andreas Prochaska, with the latter also having co-directed the eight-episode first season alongside Christopher Smith.
