Due to the ongoing global pandemic that has caused the delays of all TV productions in Hollywood, many shows weren’t able to finish their current seasons and were left with no choice but to cut their seasons short. However, this wasn’t the case for AMC’s long-running horror series The Walking Dead as the network opted to delay the April premiere of its tenth season finale to a much later date this year.
In a recent interview with Fandom, TWD director Greg Nicotero has revealed a few details about the Season 10 finale episode titled “Certain Doom,” teasing the last minutes of the episode will definitely be a jaw-dropping moment for viewers.
“It’s one of my favorite episodes of the season,” Nicotero said. “It tees us up so well for Season 11 that it’s a little agonizing for me to not be able to talk about it. The last two minutes of the finale are gonna just… people’s jaws are gonna drop.”
He continued, “Our group is now having to deal with this giant, massive [horde]… thousands of zombies surrounding where they’re safe. There’s a lot of character storylines [where] you get little bits of information here and here, but you want to end that chapter and then start the next chapter in the finale. So we address lots of stuff with Daryl, Negan, Beta, Carol… There’s always that challenge of pushing the visuals and pushing the story and pushing the emotion.”

The Walking Dead is a story that started 10 years ago with one man trying to find his family. That family grew and gradually communities took shape. They fought and survived, thrived and gave birth to a new generation. It is a tale of humankind and there are more stories to tell.
It is now Spring, a few months after the end of Season 9 when our group of survivors dared to cross into Whisperer territory during the harsh winter. The collected communities are still dealing with the after-effects of Alpha’s horrific display of power, reluctantly respecting the new borderlines being imposed on them, all while organizing themselves into a militia-style fighting force, preparing for a battle that may be unavoidable.
But the Whisperers are a threat unlike any they have ever faced. Backed by a massive horde of the dead it is seemingly a fight they cannot win. The question of what to do and the fear it breeds will infect the communities and give rise to paranoia, propaganda, secret agendas, and infighting that will test them as individuals and as a society. The very idea of whether civilization can survive in a world filled with the dead hangs in the balance.
