“We got our inspiration really from the name. The idea of a fennec fox came to mind,” Wen told Vanity Fair. “She’s tricky, and yet she’s able to maneuver and survive, and be stealthy—so very graceful and agile. I just love that whole image with the name.”

Wen remains rather mysterious on where her character’s allegiances lie, comparing her character to Han Solo while noting that she got her reputation as an assassin for the galaxy’s top crime syndicates has her leaning closer to a sinister nature.

“[Her backstory] will evolve, it will change. I mean, I think that’s what’s so wonderful about creating a new character,” Wen said. “I think she has a good sense of humor about it all as well, which is also fun. You can’t really pinpoint which direction she’s going to go.”

The first live-action Star Wars series will take place a few years after Return of the Jedi. Whoever the Mandalorian is under his mask, he’s no friend of the Empire. The trailer shows the Mandalorian methodically making his way through former Imperial soldiers. He also has an on-board carbon freezing chamber to deal with his targets. That makes things a lot easier when turning them in for bounties.

Julia Jones’ Omera can be seen as she starts to take off the Mandalorian’s mask. This implies a possible romantic connection between them. Meanwhile, Gina Carano’s Cara Dune appears to have a more professional relationship with him. There’s also a glimpse of Carl Weathers’ Greef Carga, Taika Waititi’s IG-11, and Giancarlo Esposito’s Moff Gideon. But we’ll have to wait a few weeks to see how it all comes together.

The Mandalorian‘s first episode will premiere on November 12, only on Disney+.
