NYCC: David S. Goyer and Tom Riley Tease Season 2 of Da Vinci’s Demons

Even though Leonardo da Vinci is one of the most recognizable figures in history, few are aware of the details of his youth in Florence, Italy. Upon realizing that da Vinci had no television presence, David S. Goyer seized the opportunity, tapping into the wealth of historical information, combining it with some fictional elements, and churning out the Starz series, “Da Vinci’s Demons.” Just days after the show’s April 12, 2013 premiere to record-breaking numbers, the show locked in a second season and discussions regarding a third are currently underway.

Focusing on a young Leonardo da Vinci (Tom Riley), “Da Vinci’s Demons” highlights the burdens of the legendary inventor and artist’s intellectual genius. In season two, Florence is in turmoil, threatened by the forces of Rome. While the Medicis resort to unthinkable tactics to defend the city, da Vinci is forced to reassess everything he knew in his pursuit of the Book of Leaves and his mother.

With the show due to return in 2014, Goyer and Riley hit the New York Comic Con press circuit to discuss the new locations, da Vinci’s fondness for playing pranks, Goyer’s alleged funny side, the potential for season three, and more. Catch it all in the video interview below.
