According to Deadline, Hulu is in the final negotiations to give out a straight-to-series order for The Mysterious Benedict Society, based on author Trenton Lee Stewart’s coming-of-age adventure novel series of the same name. The adaptation is penned by Ride Along writing duo Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay.

The Mysterious Benedict Society will follow the story of four gifted orphans who are recruited by a eccentric, benefactor to go on a secret mission. Placed undercover at a boarding school known as The Institute, they must foil a nefarious plot with global ramifications, while creating a new sort of family along the way.
The novel is a New York Times bestseller that was first published in 2007 by Little, Brown and Company. Illustrated by Carson Ellis, it was followed by three installments titled The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Perilous Journey, The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Prisoner’s Dilemma and the prequel novel The Extraordinary Education of Nicholas Benedict.

The series will be produced by Sonar Entertainment, 20th Century Fox TV and Jamie Tarses’ Fanfare. It will be executive produced by Shadowhunters’ Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer along with James Bobin, Manfredi, Hay, Tarses and Karen Kehela Sherwood. Slavkin and Swimmer are also set as showrunners while Bobin will be directing the pilot episode.
