Less than a day after the announcement that Denis Leary would star in Fox’s A Moody Christmas, the network has announced actress Elizabeth Perkins will also star in the single-camera six-episode series event — an adaptation of the Australian series of the same name.
Perkins will play Ann, “the matriarch of the Moodys.”
“I can think of no better foil for Denis Leary than Elizabeth,” said Michael Thorn, President, Entertainment, Fox Entertainment. “She’s got the comedy chops and the gravitas to go toe-to-toe with him in any situation, and I can’t wait to see their chemistry ignite on screen. Here’s to a very Moody Christmas!”

A Moody Christmas follows Sean Moody Sr. (Leary) and his family as they mingle with a variety of eccentric extended family members through the holidays. Each family member brings with them secrets and complications that add more stress to the already stressful yuletide fare.
Bob Fisher, Rob Greenberg and Tad Quill will write the series, which will be co-produced by CBS TV Studios and Fox Entertainment.

Fox intends to continue the Moody family saga (should the initial event prove successful) and focus on the family at important events throughout their lifecycle.
Perkins is best known for her roles in films such as 1988’s Big, starring Tom Hanks, and TV shows such as This Is Us, Sharp Objects and Glow.
