“We love Mehcad and we’re sad to see him leave the show as a series regular, but we’re excited for both Mehcad and James Olsen’s future. He’ll always be a part of our Supergirl family and we look forward to James returning to National City at some point to visit his sister and his super friends,” said Supergirl showrunners Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller.
The outlet notes that Brooks is saying goodbye to the series so that he can focus on movies and has plans to develop a cable series the actor would star in. Brooks is also writing a book alongside his future endeavors. It hasn’t been revealed yet how the character will be written off of the show, but he will be leaving the series during the first half of the season.
Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist (Glee) as Kara Danvers/Supergirl, Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, Chyler Leigh (Grey’s Anatomy) as Alex Danvers, Jeremy Jordan as Winslow ‘Winn’ Schott, Katie McGrath (Merlin) as Lena Luthor, Jess Rath as Brainiac 5, and David Harewood as Hank Henshaw/J’onn J’onnz. Last season, Sam Witwer, Rhona Mitra and Bruce Boxleitner have joined the cast to portray the roles of Agent Liberty, Mercy Graves and Vice President Baker, respectively.
