The acclaimed animated series, The Boondocks, is being revived by Sony Animation who revealed a slate of new projects at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival.

The studio is planning a reimagining of the comic strip from Aaron McGruder, which was originally adapted into an animated television series for Adult Swim, debuting in 2005. The series last aired on the network in 2014.
Other new projects announced include Genndy Tartakovsky’s (Samurai Jack, Star Wars: Clone Wars, Primal) returning to animation to direct Fixed. The feature is described as an R-rated comedy about a dog enjoying his last day before being taken to the vet to be neutered. Black Knight is also currently in development, which revolves around a medieval adventure about a knight who must avenge his own mistakes to redeem his kingdom.
Sony Animation is also working on an anthology series based on Anthony Bourdain’s comic Hungry Ghost, intended to be a mix of horror and comedy. The series will have a different look and feel from one installment to the next. The comic was co-written with Joel Rose and was published in 2018. The book contains a collection of horror stories mixed with recipes and art.

During the presentation, Sony also featured a few of their established upcoming titles, including The Angry Birds Movie 2, and Vivo.
