Composer Bear McCreary, well-known to genre fans for his work on television shows like “Battlestar Galactica” and “The Walking Dead,” is set to score the upcoming ABC series, “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” EW first reported the news with McCreary offering immediate confirmation via social media. He posted the following announcement on his official site:
“Readers of my blog know that superhero stories and their scores have had a tremendous impact on my life ever since I was a kid. I grew up with ‘Batman: The Animated Series,’ ‘Superman,’ ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,’ ‘Spiderman’ and ‘X-Men.’ In my daydreams, their adventures rumbled with bombastic and soaring orchestral melodies. I always wanted to write music of my own for this genre.
Now, I have the opportunity to contribute original music to the ever-expanding Marvel universe? And I have a full symphonic orchestra at my disposal every week to do it? And I get to work with the visionary Joss Whedon and his remarkable creative team? Well, suddenly Im worried that my entire life might actually be a dream, that I might suddenly wake up back in third grade, having dozed off while reading ‘X-Men.’ If this life is a dream, Im going to love every minute of it until I wake up.”
Marvel Studios’ first television tie-in to their ongoing cinematic universe is set to make a major appearance at this week’s Comic-Con International San Diego. The show will have a panel at Comic-Con on Friday, July 19, that will feature executive producer Joss Whedon and Marvel’s Head of Television and series executive producer Jeph Loeb. The show will also be spotlighted at the Marvel Entertainment Booth on the Convention Center floor throughout the entire weekend, with special surprises to be announced.
Clark Gregg reprises his role of Agent Phil Coulson from Marvels feature films as he assembles a small, highly select group of Agents including: Brett Dalton as Agent Grant Ward, Iain De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz, Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Jemma Simmons, Ming-Na Wen as Agent Melinda May and Chloe Bennet as the mysterious computer hacker Skye. It will air on Tuesdays this fall on ABC.
