Amazon’s Dark Tower series adaptation of Stephen King’s book series has cast Jasper Pääkkönen (Vikings) and Sam Strike (Nightflyers) in lead roles, Variety has confirmed.

Pääkkönen, who has starred in BlacKkKlansman, Vikings, Heart of a Lion, and the upcoming Da 5 Bloods, will play The Man in Black, also known as Randall Flagg and Marten Broadclock. Strike, whose credits include Timeless, Leatherface, Mindhunter, Nightflyers, and the upcoming The Wisdom Tooth and The Dougherty Gang, will play Roland Deschain, aka The Gunslinger.
The series was originally planned as a tie-in to the 2017 The Dark Tower film that stared Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey. Amazon shifted gears and is now planning for the series to be a more faithful adaptation of the book series.
The Dark Tower series is produced by Media Rights Capital (MRC). Glen Mazzara will serve as showrunner and executive producer.

The adaptation joins Amazon’s lineup of high-profile projects currently in development, including the Lord of the Rings prequel series that has already received a two-season commitment. The show is being developed by JD Payne and Patrick McKay.
