A mystery for nearly four decades, Rod Serling’s final screenplay, The Stop Along the Way is finally going to be revealed. The Hollywood Reporter brings word that J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot has secured the rights to the work and that they’ll develop the tale for the small screen as a television miniseries.
Despite a mention in Serling’s final interview, four months before his death (which you can read in its entirety by clicking here), details are virtually nil as to the story’s plot. Serling does, however, tell the interviewer that he’s quite fond of it, listing it among his favorite works.
“Well, I guess ‘Requiem for a Heavyweight,’ as old as it is, was as honest a piece as I’ve ever done,” he recalls. “‘Tearing Down Tim Reilly’s Bar’ (from Night Gallery) was one of my favorites. And then one that I just wrote called ‘The Stop Along the Way,’ which is, I think, a lovely script.”
There’s a slight discrepancy between Serling’s title and the one mentioned in the trade. They refer to the project as The Stops Along the Way. Check back for details as to which of those is accurate as information on this project develops.
