Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Rom-Com Run Gets a Series Order at HBO

According to Deadline, HBO has officially given a series order for executive producer Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s upcoming romantic comedy thriller series titled Run. Waller-Bridge is also set to star in a recurring role along with Domhnall Gleeson (About Time) and Emmy Award-winning actress Meritt Wever (Nurse Jackie, Godless). This will mark Gleeson’s first major TV series commitment.

Run is romantic-comedic-thriller series that follows the story of Ruby, a woman living a humdrum existence, who one day gets a text, inviting her to fulfill a youthful pact promising true love and self-reinvention, by stepping out of her life to take a journey with her oldest flame Billy Johnson. He is a successful life guru who is born from a wealthy Irish family. Billy has the gift of the gab, he deftly combines a boatload of charisma with a boundless need for approval.

Vicky Jones has written the project who will also executive produce alongside Waller-Bridge through their DryWrite banner. The series is being produced by Entertainment One with Emily Leo of Wigwam Films also set to executive produce.

This project will be the fourth series that Waller-Bridge will be working on as a writer and creator. She is best known for her critically-acclaimed comedy series Fleabag which stars Waller-Bridge, Oscar winner Olivia Colman, Hugh Skinner, and Sian Clifford. She is also busy working on BBC’s hit series Killing Eve which had earned her an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series. Starring two-time Golden Globe winner Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer, the series will return for its highly-anticipated second season on April 7.
