Jane Leeves has signed up to play the lead role opposite Hannah Simone in a yet-to-be-titled upcoming ABC single-camera comedy pilot, according to Deadline.

Leeves shot to stardom with her memorable portrayal of Daphne on Frasier from 1993-2004. She currently stars as Dr. Kitt Voss on The Resident, and the trade notes that if the new pilot goes to series then Leeves would only return for a few episodes. However, if the pilot doesn’t go to series, then she would likely return to The Resident full time.
The comedy pilot hails from executive producer Simone and former New Girl co-executive producer Matt Fusfeld and Alex Cuthbertson. The pilot is said to be inspired by and revolve around Simone and her Indian-American immigrant father Sid, both of whom are in a fairly bad situation — she’s stuck in a thankless job, and his marriage is over. They forge a new path together, which could either be a good thing, or a bad thing.

Leeves will play Caroline, Sid’s now ex-wife, a warm and slightly batty New Age-y woman “with a fondness for crystals and meditation, according to the trade.
