The FOX pilot Filthy Rich has found its lead. Deadline reports that former Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall has signed on to play Margaret Monroe, the star of a popular lifestyle TV series, who’s also the creator of a conservative TV network that she runs with her husband.
The pilot is described as a larger-than-life Southern gothic dramedy revolving around two women who will go to any length to protect their loved ones and get what’s owed to them. After the CEO of the world’s largest Christian network dies in a plane crash, his wife and grown children find themselves stunned when they discover he has several illegitimate kids, and they’re in his will. The family’s matriarch tries to pay these newfound kids off, but they have a very different idea that involves them becoming part of the family’s sprawling empire.
The show was created by Tate Taylor (The Help, The Girl on the Train), who hails from Jackson, MI. Taylor will be executive producing alongside his producing partner John Norris via Wyolah Films alongside Imagine’s Grazer and Francie Calfo. Anna Culp and Jillian Kugler will be overseeing for Imagine TV.
Cattrall recently starred in the first season of Tell Me A Story for CBS. She’s also set to co-star in the upcoming family drama Horrible Histories: The Movie alongside Nick Frost and Warwick Davis. Her role as Samantha in HBO’s Sex and the City earned her a Golden Globe and five Emmy nominations during its run.
